Pre-Pharmacy
A Variety of Career Options
Careers in pharmacy can include not only dispensing medications, but patient counseling, providing pharmaceutical advice to physicians in a hospital, making intravenous and nutritional solutions in the hospital environment, and pharmaceutical research.
A Plan to Succeed
Students in an accelerated pre-pharmacy track will take two to three years of pre-pharmacy study at Huntington and then directly enter a four-year pharmacy doctoral program at another institution. In all, students will earn their doctorate degrees in pharmacy up to two years faster, without first having to complete a bachelor’s degree. A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree is required to practice pharmacy in the United States, and the accelerated route is becoming more common among students. Students who do not wish to take an accelerated route may complete a bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry at Huntington before attending pharmacy school.
High-Quality, Christian Education
The purpose of the track is to provide a high-quality, Christian education from Huntington while creating an accelerated path to earning a doctorate degree in pharmacy. The accelerated pre-pharmacy track builds on Huntington’s excellence in biology and chemistry as well as continuing the successes of the university’s accredited nursing program, innovative RN-to-BSN program, multiple exercise science programs, and the high rate of medical school acceptance for pre-med graduates.
